Thanks for taking the time to visit Nerdy Corps. My name is Nick jones and I’ll be your point of contact for the duration of your visit.
The first step in the U.S. Army’s Troop Leading Procedures is to receive the mission. The mission I received is to establish a personal website in WordPress for my Digital Tools and Media in Communication class. And so here we are.
I’m sure not everyone who visits this site or reads these blog posts will have a military background, so let me explain what I mean by the commander’s intent. Commander’s intent is a doctrinal term that basically boils down to, in broad strokes, how they want the mission to be accomplished. And so, with this in mind, let me tell you a little bit about who I am and what I want this site to accomplish.
I served in the US Army for 25 years. For 21 of those years, I was a noncommissioned officer (NCO). Think middle management for a corporate equivalent. Sort of. It’s a lot more complicated than that, but it’ll do for our purposes. Because so much of my life has been colored by my military service, so have my hobbies and things I enjoy. So what I want to do with Nerdy Corps is look at those things I love, like collecting action figures, and try to help you see them through that lens. Sometimes, this might mean I explain that Dusty (a character from the G.I. Joe toy line) coming with a FAMAS rifle is supposed to visually connect him to the French Foreign Legion. Sometimes, it may mean I talk about the real military inspiration for the Transformers character Bludgeon’s tank alternate mode (he resembles a samurai and the tank is Japanese). Other times, I’ll likely just speak about trends in toys and the collecting community.
Thanks again for taking the time to visit Nerdy Corps. I look forward to your feedback in the After Action Report (aka the comments).
